Palma Boox 2 may be a good choice for those who find Kindle e-readers too big and want additional features.
Your e-reader could do more than just show books; it could run apps, play music, and scan various documents – it could also be smaller.
That’s the idea behind Palma’s Boox reader, which made headlines earlier this year due to its unique concept.
This week, the e-reader maker Onyx announced updated version, Palma Boox 2, which builds on the same concept and adds a few minor improvements.
The new version has the same phone-sized 6,13-inch e-ink screen, which features 824*1648 resolution (300 ppi) density.
Just like a smartphone, the reader has a few buttons for accessing some controls and turning digital book pages, though it doesn't have a SIM card slot.
Unlike the previous version that ran on Android 11, Palma Boox 2 now is powered by Android 13. Android support allows users to download various book readers and other apps via Google Play.
Since the e-reader has speakers, users can also download and listen to music or podcasts via Spotify and other platforms.
Alongside these updates, the Palma Boox 2 has a few more new features, like a fingerprint sensor for easier information protection, a new unspecified eight-core processor, and the same 6GB of RAM.
For storing books, apps, and other files, Palma Boox 2 has 128 GB of internal storage which can be increased to 1 TB. There is also a 16 MP camera with flash, which users can use to scan their documents.
The reader comes with a 3,950mAh battery, yet its durability will depend on your usage. For reading books offline, the battery could last for a whole month, though if you use Wi-Fi apps, durability will decrease dramatically.
Palma Boox 2 is available in white and black. It costs $280, which is more than an average Kindle e-reader.
