The latest Google smartwatches can’t be fixed

If you break your Pixel Watch 3, your only option is to get a replacement.

Typically, if your device breaks down, you can bring it to a repair shop and have it fixed. However, this has never been the case with Google’s Pixel smartwatches.

The first two versions of the watch were unrepairable in Google’s official channels, and now Google has confirmed to Android Authority that the same rules will apply to the third edition.

“Pixel Watch 3 is replacement only,” the company said in an email to the website.

This means that if your Pixel’s screen has even a few scratches, you can only apply for a replacement or try to fix it yourself.

Google allows users to insure the Pixel smartwatch with its Preferred Care program, which costs $4 a month or $89 for two years.

Google’s decision not to fix its watches may raise environmental concerns and appears inconsistent with some of the previous company’s statements.

When announcing Pixel 9 devices, Google underlined that they are made from recycled materials, such as recycled aluminum. However, replacing a watch every time it doesn’t work also generates electronic waste and isn’t sustainable.

Google announced its Pixel Watch 3 in its Made by Google event on August 13th. The new device will feature a refreshed screen and better AI tracking features, and its price will start at $349 in the US.
