Apple Watch Ultra users could soon be sending text via satellite.
Apple first introduced its satellite communication feature in 2022 with the launch of the iPhone 14. The feature has proven itself to be useful, especially in life-threatening situations.
Now, it looks set to be added to Apple’s upcoming Watch Ultra, allowing the device to send text messages without a WiFi or cellular connection.
Apple has recently positioned its products as lifesaving devices by adding emergency and health-related features.
A blood pressure monitoring feature might also be added to Apple Watch, Bloomberg reports. The feature would detect elevated blood pressure and alert users of possible signs of hypertension.
While the blood pressure feature was expected to be released with the Apple Watch Series 10, the company struggled with it during the testing phase, so it wasn’t included in the final product.
The company’s latest smartwatch is also missing another health feature – a blood oxygen tracker that shows the percentage of oxygen in the user's blood. This was delayed due to a dispute over a pulse oximetry patent.
Apple might also integrate one more technology into its future devices. It’s reportedly working on a blood glucose tracker that could help prevent users from developing diabetes.
Adding new features to its smartwatch could help the company boost its device sales. Users aren’t so keen to update their watches when new models don’t offer many novelties.
At least, that’s what was noticed with the Apple Watch Series 10, which is thinner and has a larger screen. However, it doesn’t differ much from its predecessors in terms of functionality.
The satellite feature could be a valid reason to upgrade their watch to the Ultra model, which costs twice as much as the Series 10.
